Acquired Apraxia of Speech

What is Acquired Apraxia of Speech

It's basically a misalignment or scattered way of expression, where you actually know what to say but get stuck in between, because the brain doesn't signal properly.

It usually occurs after neurological changes such as a stroke, brain injury, or other medical conditions affecting the brain. This may cause broken speech, repeated attempts, unclear pronunciation, or difficulty forming words properly.

With early intervention and right support these scribbles can be easily improved which helps you to communicate better and properly.

Moments Where Individuals Pause

  • When speech sounds become unclear after a stroke or brain injury.
  • When pronunciation becomes weak day after day.
  • When the person takes much time to complete one sentence.
  • When speaking feels low, exhausting, and frustrating.
  • When communication becomes hard in daily conversations.

How Families Can Supports At Home

  • Give them enough time to complete the sentence.
  • Listen patiently before judgement
  • Encourage their small wins.
  • Stay calm and supportive as always.
  • Give them confidence like they can do it.

A Small Note

Speaking is the absolute way to communicate. If that is normal, speaking difficulties are also normal; it just needs the right supportive hand to get improved.

Always try to motivate yourself with what you can do and what you are capable of. And all the rest will fall into place at the right time.

Until then, just relax and be confident.
