Listening, But Not Responding

Children learn to respond by hearing. They first imitate the sounds they are hearing and then convert it into small sounds and later it is made into words and then sentences. Some children learn and respond easily while some take time or they may face some difficulties in responding.

These difficulties can be lightened from the home with proper guidance and support. If that doesn't work, a proper professional consultation will help them to develop their language.

Listening, But Not Responding

Some Situations from Everyday Life

  • When the child actually knows what they should respond but hesitates.
  • When the child does not respond to their name when their name is called.
  • When the child understands the instruction but fails to act.
  • When the child remains silent when they are asked to do anything.
  • When the child seems to be attentive but never reacts or responds.

What the Child Feels

The child feels unsure about their act of responding. Trying to question themselves even shows frustration to the people who they are in comfort with.

What Parents Should Notice

This is not serious, the difficulty can be lightened with proper support and guidance from the home itself.

Consult If Needed

If the child continues the difficulty; ensure to take them to proper clinical guidance and support for their early language development.
